As a Man, you have to be willing to sit back and let others sing your praises. You should never, ever do it for yourself. It's unseemly, and wrong, and downright unManly.
For example, the runaway bestseller* The Man Rules is now available on Amazon. (Yes! Amazon! Can you believe it?) Now, if I were a common, run-of-the-mill guy, I'd probably do something crass like use my blog to tout this. But I'm not a guy - I'm a Man, and by golly, I'm not going to stoop that low.
Sure, having my book available on Amazon is something of a dream come true for me. I mean, Amazon sells millions of books every year. If just 93 percent of the people who buy books on Amazon in a given year decided to buy several copies of The Man Rules (which is now available on Amazon), that would mean I would make ... let's see here ... add the six and the nine, carry the two ... a LOT of money.
Of course, it's not about the money for me. I wrote The Man Rules (now available on Amazon) to help guide those guys who struggle in their quest to be a Man. Oh, sure, the money is nice. I mean, let's face it, when I go to the grocery store and the bill comes to something like $218 because we have three boys in the house who apparently feel it's their God-given right to eat steak and lobster for breakfast every day, I can't smile winningly at the clerk and say "I help guys in their journey to become Men, and along the way I also make several smart-aleck remarks in an attempt to be witty" and expect them to accept that as payment. It doesn't work that way. Lord knows I've tried.
So while it would be fantastic if everybody who was reading this rushed right out and bought a copy of The Man Rules (which can be found on Amazon), I certainly am not going to stoop so low as to recommend it, or even suggest it. That would be wrong.
Because I get a higher percentage of the royalties if you buy it from the Smashwords site.
P.S. My five-year-old son, Colin, wanted me to tell you the book is also available at Barnes and Noble. I'm not sure why he asked me to tell you that, but I promised him I would, and a Man keeps his promises.
*"Runaway bestseller," in this context, means "Purchased by seven people, three of whom know me." It's the Latvian interpretation of the term.
